I was on my way home last night, already inside the jeepney and halfway to the MRT station, when I realized that I left my wallet at the office. There were two other passengers in the jeepney, and boy was I glad when they got off at the PCMC! It would be too embarrassing to approach the driver and have them hear about my predicament. Anyway, when I was finally alone, I summoned up the courage to tell the driver about my stupidity. Expecting to be reprimanded for boarding the jeep without any money, the driver dismissed it and even offered to give me money. He was worried that I might not get home. Since I have my stored value ticket for the train, I really didn’t need it. Also, it would be too much to take money from him because for all I know, he might have twelve kids to feed at home. I’d rather walk from the train station to my house (which is about seven blocks), than accept the kind driver’s offer.
Anyway, I thanked him profusely before I got off. I thanked him because even though P7.50 seems such an insignificant amount, it was his goodness and his readiness to help me out that really touched me.
Thank you, Mr. Driver. You proved that people are innately good. I included you in my prayers last night.
